Felix Unger

Felix is a heck of a nice dog, one of the nicest we’ve ever had.  He’s not a looker though-ouch, sorry Felix– and he does have a tail, but for sheer loving personality and desire to please: wow!  He’s 51lbs on a larger but skinny frame.  He came in very skinny– ribs showing even through fur—so the very hardest thing for him has been learning to wait after I set his dish down to be released to eat. The look in his eyes . . . oh my.  But he TRIES so hard, and is mostly managing to wait these days.   Go to the crate or sit or out– picked up all those in a flash.  We’re not positive on age but the vets at the shelter put him at a year, though we could believe 18 months.

He’s smart too, smart enough to get what’s wanted very quickly, and also full of enthusiasm  for his human and offers behaviors readily, like, “Is this what you wanted?” (as he dashes into the nearest crate when you say “Crate!” even if it’s the smaller one and he has to crouch down and his ears stick up through the top.   LOL  But he is a 10/10 for gusto and great good humor and he makes us laugh every day.
He is as smart as any Aussie we’ve had and works hard to earn your praise and attention.  So that is all very much what you get in an Aussie too.  He is such a loving boy, and tries so hard. He’s definitely still kind of a goofy pup.  However he does settle nicely in the house– no barkour like some of the other crazies.    When it’s tv time, he immediately curls up at your feet and is happy as a clam. He also sleeps quietly in a crate or loose through the night, and he’s had no accidents in the house.

We have to admit we don’t think there’s even a whiff of Aussie in him, so he’s what we call an “honorary Aussie” but we don’t do genetic testing so this is just based on observation of his look and movement.  However, shelters down south are so full that even the one we take the most dogs from is having to euth dogs for space which in the 20 years we’ve worked with them is so rare. They have a truck come north every 2 weeks and they have a ton of rescue and shelter partners up north to try and get dogs to where they will get adopted into good homes, but intake for the last year or so has been insane. Some days, they have gotten 40 new dogs before lunch.  All this is by way of explaining why we took him even though he is not actually an Aussie, but he met the most important criteria we have– to be a nice dog, and be great with people and other dogs.

Someone is going to get a fabulous dog!

Rosetta

Rosetta (Rosie) is a 6 month old, rapidly growing 26 pound female. She has a fluffy butt, striking light eyes, and a soft blue merle coat. She is eager to meet everyone, loves to cuddle, eager to play, and very friendly. She is currently in velociraptor mode, but a well-placed antler keeps her occupied.

She loves to play with other dogs, but takes corrections well. She tends to be a bit overeager to meet other dogs, but is respectful of their boundaries. She loves to chase the foster home’s dogs around the yard, play fetch, and is learning how to tug with other dogs. She lives for squeakers, as she will happily sit on the couch next to you and squeak. She is medium velcro; she wants to sit next to you on the couch and be with you, but she’ll also leave if there’s a toy she really wants. While she wants your attention, she is happy to be next to you, chewing on a toy or squeaking. She has yet to meet a person she doesn’t want to be friends with. Rosie walks nicely on a leash, sits quietly in the car, and is crate trained.

Rosetta is a fast learner and takes corrections well. While she doesn’t counter surf, she is curious about anything and everything in her reach. But, if she knows something is off limits, she leaves it alone. She has shown little interest in the foster home’s parrots or the squirrels in the backyard. She is a little nippy, which is to be expected at her young age, so home with older children would be best.

As she is a very social and active dog, a home with another playful dog and a fenced in yard is preferred. An active family is a must.

Rosetta is fostered in VA.

Tripod Trixie

Introducing Tripod Trixie! Trixie is a 3-year-old Australian cattle dog mix weighing a little under 30 pounds. As her name suggests, she has only three legs. Her right hind leg was removed at some point in her past for reasons unknown. She certainly has no trouble getting around with only three legs though! Trixie truly believes that strangers are just best friends she hasn’t met yet- maybe you could be her new best friend?

Tripod Trix is quite nervous around other dogs and cats, so she would prefer a home without other pets or a long slow introduction to any potential fur siblings. She adores people though, including children, and is even gentle around toddlers (especially if they share their snacks). Trixie is a pleasure to walk on leash, never pulling and falling naturally into a “heel” position. She is pretty low energy, preferring to cuddle and snooze on the couch instead. Her three legs are working overtime after all! She is medium velcro- she likes to be around her people and will follow around the house, but not always, and she has no problem being left alone. She is safe to be left loose when alone, she is housebroken and non-destructive, but she is also crate trained if needed.

Trixie is truly a special pup who deserves a nice home and family. Her ideal forever home would be a place where she can doze off on the couch, get some belly rubs, and hang out with her favorite people. Consider adding Trixie to your family today!

Mozzie

Meet Mozzie! He is a 3.5 year old red merle love bug with a tail. He loves doing whatever his foster family is doing!

He adores the 5 year old in his foster home and has been great with the other two female dogs. Our cat is very dog savvy and Mozzie’s cat curiosity is getting him taught lessons he is slow to learn.  In his future home he would need a dog savvy cat or none at all.  He is also working on his chicken keeping skills.

He would likely be best in a home with female dogs only as he has had tension with other males.  He loves to play with the other Aussies in his foster home but would also do well as an only dog with an active family that would ensure he gets plenty of play time and exercise.

He’s an active boy but settles well and really enjoys shadowing his stay at home foster mom. He listens very well, is housebroken and is such a good boy! He is working on his counter surfing but is doing very well with correction and would need continued training in his forever home.

He is a few pounds overweight but will lose the extra weight easily with plenty of exercise and no table scraps. Mozzie would love a family with a fenced yard that would cuddle him and love on him!

Mozzie is fostered in MD.

Brian

Brian is a handsome 4-year-old red bi Aussie, weighing 38 pounds, no tail, and he’s ready for a new beginning. This housebroken boy rides well in the car and is easy to handle for grooming. He’s gentle with kids and has a calm, submissive nature. He has come a long way in foster and now trusts his main caregiver and is ready and able to form an attachment to a person. He spent most of his life living outdoors with minimal human contact.

While Brian tends to avoid human interaction at first, once he feels safe, he’s sweet and cooperative. He will do best in a home with a secure yard and at least one other playful doggie companion.  After a rough start, he’s now fantastic on leash. Brian crates easily but now sleeps peacefully through the night uncrated in the bedroom and can be left loose in the house when you’re away with no problem.

Brian now wiggles in response to sweet talk, and is very food motivated so he learns quickly and happily with a few treats.  He is such a nice boy, with a fantastically soft coat that he has learned to like having brushed.

This guy might take a little longer to integrate into a new household and adjust to new humans than a dog from a more conventional background. but he is so worth it!

Mangus – ADOPTION PENDING – is in the 30 pound range and presently on medical hold due to recuperation from an accident. He is approximately 8 years old and semi-velcro. He always wants to know where you are and can hear you move from two rooms away. He is totally trust worthy without a crate, but will slip into his crate periodically for a nap. He experienced some time on his own before being rescued so asks that we keep all garbage can lids closed. He does not play with toys but enjoys belly rubs while in your lap and loves hanging on the deck watching the deer and new fawns on the outside of the fencing.   NS3884

Bailey Blue is a work in progress, learning to trust people. She may have been abused or had some head injury or is just naturally extremely shy of people, but she is great with other dogs.  This girl is a flower waiting to bloom and it will take some time to see how much more progress she can make. She may never be a very social dog with people she doesn’t know but it’s clear she will learn to love and trust at least one or two people.  Bailey Blue is fostered in Collegeville, PA  NS3780
